JIAMCATT Partnership

    The term "JIAMCATT Partnership" designates a specific category of institutional members.

  • What is a JIAMCATT Partner ?
  • Being a JIAMCATT Partner means to be committed to share its terminology resources with the other partners, to participate in JIAMCATT activities, namely its annual session, and to convey to the JIAMCATT community any information that contributes to the advancement of discussions on various topics pertaining to the fields of terminology research and management, the use of translation aid tools (including speech recognition, preparation of reference and terminological materials for translations), as well as the design and implementation of document flow management tools. Discussion forums have been established for this purpose.

  • Who is eligible to become a partner ?
  • Any international organization whose field of activity relates to the production of terminology, any state department or any national institution whose terminology resources are of interest to users working in an international setting is eligible to become a JIAMCATT partner. Eligible national institutions include terminology institutions, universities and research centres specialized in terminology. As of October 1999, more than seventy institutions were affiliated as JIAMCATT partners.

  • How do we become a JIAMCATT partner ?
  • If you wish to become a partner, you should send your application by writing directly to the Secretariat of JIAMCATT: Languages Service, Room E.5086, Palais des Nations, CH-1211 GENEVA 10, tel. +4122 917 5306, indicating your name, title and address (including your phone and fax numbers and email address), together with a brief account on your organization (be it international or national) and its field of activity. If the profile of your organization meets the required criteria, a user name and a password, giving access to JIAMCATT restricted site, will be communicated to you.

  • Who can have access to the restricted site ?

  • Any staff member of the partner institutions can have access to the restricted site of JIAMCATT, namely:
      • staff members of the language and/or conference services of the international (intergovernmental or non-governmental) organizations and national civil services, partners of JIAMCATT (i.e., translators, interpreters, terminologists, documentalists, precis-writers, etc.);
      • conference translators and interpreters;
      • teachers of translation and interpretation institutes and schools and linguists;
      • members of the International Federation of Translators.

    In rare instances, access to the restricted site of JIAMCATT may also be given to those (person or body) who make their authoritative terminology resources available to JIAMCATT community.

  • How do we reach the restricted site ?
  • Once your candidacy is accepted, go to the public page of the JIAMCATT site and click on the item "Common Restricted Site" in the menu. A dialogue box will prompt. Insert in the corresponding fields the user name and password previously communicated to you by the JIAMCATT Secretary.
